It was in the 1970s that the city of Paris planned to renovate the neighborhood of Paris-Bercy. The Palais Omnisport was a part of the urban development project in this sector. It would also benefit from access near the Gare de Lyon, RER, the subway, the expressway right bank and the ring road.
In May 1979, the city of Paris launched an audit with 16 teams of architects to build the Sports Centre of the city, in the future park at Bercy.
On July 23 1979, the candidates delivered their projects, and on the October 23 1979, the city designated the team Andrault-Parat, Prouvé, Guvan laureate of the contest, and confided to her the execution.
The study work began at the end of October 1979, the construction of the foundations began in February 1981 and the building itself the March 30 1981 and ended two and a half years later, in December 1983.
